Case deferred against youth who tried to flee Inverness court

A teenager who tried to flee a court after receiving a 15 month custodial sentence has had his sentence deferred for a second time as he has a further case pending.
Grant McPhee, from Fort William, appeared for sentencing by Sheriff David Harvie after a trial involving several charges, including allegations of violence, had been set for September 30.
McPhee and a 17 year old youth both denied the accusations and were released on bail.

McPhee had previously had his sentence deferred to allow him to complete hours of work imposed for an earlier case after he previously admitted threatening behaviour by throwing his bag out of the dock at Inverness Sheriff Court and trying to escape.
Sheriff Robert Frazer had sent him to detention but the quick actions of prisoner escort staff and a court police officer prevented the19 year old from fleeing and he was restrained.
The incident happened in court 3 on August 28, 2023 when fiscal depute Alison Young told how the bag missed one of her colleagues.
She told Sheriff Sara Matheson: "It landed near the fiscal depute. He then attempted to climb out of the dock.
"He was restrained to the ground by Geoamey staff assisted by the court's police officer, but continued to struggle and make abusive comments."
When he appeared again to be dealt with Sheriff Matheson heard that he was currently on two community payback orders including unpaid hours.
