Highland Council has decided to mothball Daviot Primary School from August.

Parents of the five children who attend the school have received an official notice from the local authority.

Places at the nearest school Milton of Leys will be offered unless parents wish to make alternative arrangements.

Commenting on this decision, Councillor Duncan Macpherson said: “At the moment there is a small school population at Daviot Primary and we have found parents have sent their children to nearer by schools in recent years.

“There has been a decrease in children born in the Highlands and this is having an impact on how many attend schools.

“Unless more people move to the area and the population of children to attend Daviot increases, Highland Council will continue to mothball the school.

“Highland Council is currently responsible for 202 schools many of which are small schools.”
