Yacht engine failure sparks launch of RNLI Kessock lifeboat
A lifeboat was scrambled from North Kessock last night after a yacht’s engine failed.
The RNLI’s Kessock lifeboat was launched at 7.47pm in response to a coastguard request for help assisting a 19ft yacht that was in difficulty offshore.
The vessel had lost power and the RNLI said it “was struggling to make way under sail”.
A spokesperson for the Kessock lifeboat station added:”Unfortunately the yacht had lost radio communication and therefore had to communicate via mobile phone with the coastguard who relayed the messages to the lifeboat.
“It was decided the best method for recovery was to put a crew member on board to assist with sailing the yacht back towards Kessock Pier under the supervision of the lifeboat where they were met by the coastguard.”
They added: “As always if you see anyone in trouble near the water please call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
