INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle will attempt to end their dismal season in the Championship on Friday night against Greenock Morton and avoid having to fight against relegation in the play-offs next week.

Caley Thistle need to get a better result than Queen’s Park do against Airdrie to avoid finishing in ninth place and having to face Montrose in the Championship play-off semi final next week.

But Inverness’s destiny is out of their own hands as Queen’s Park are on 40 points in eighth place with Inverness in ninth on 39 points.

Caley Thistle’s lost control of their own destiny last weekend when they could only draw 1-1 at Dunfermline Athletic, as Queen’s Park leapfrogged them into eighth after thrashing Arbroath 5-0 at Gayfield.

Manager Duncan Ferguson says while he will be getting updates of what is happening at Hampden, says his team are only focussed on winning and hopes it will be enough.

"The coaching staff will let me know as the game goes on, but I will be concentrating on our performance.

"That was the same for us at Dunfermline on Saturday. I wasn't aware of what was going on in the other match between Arbroath and Queen’s Park, although I noticed the score at half-time.

"Of course, the deeper the game goes, and the greater chance we've got, we can start changing things accordingly.

"We have just got to try and win. It is then down to Airdrie to take points off Queen's Park.

“You are concentrating on your game-plan and how your team is set up.

"You just want to win your game. You channel everything into that.

"Decisions will be made as the game goes on depending what is happening in the other game, such as tactical decisions or substitutions. All depending on what we've got to do in the game. “

Ferguson says he is not considering Inverness playing in the play-offs against Montrose next week.

He says Inverness can still finish their season tonight and secure safety in the Championship next season.

He also believes Airdrie are capable of getting a result against Queen’s Park which is required for Inverness to avoid the play-offs.

"As a manager, I just focus on the next game. We don't want to be in the play-offs, so we don't talk about the play-offs.

"We want to make sure we get the job done within the regular season. And it can still be done.

"We can win on Friday and Airdrie can take something from Queen's Park. Airdrie are a very good team. They have had a great season, they're on a good surface and they're a good possession team.

"It will be tough for Queen's Park, a lot tougher for Queen's Park than it was last week.
