Suspect detained after Ross County midfielder Yan Dhanda allegedly subject to racist abuse during win over Hibernian

By Andrew Henderson

Ross County have confirmed that a suspect has been detained after allegedly racially abusing attacking midfielder Yan Dhanda during their win over Hibernian.

The 25-year-old could be seen in conversation with referee Don Robertson at one stage in the first half, shortly after having been close to the travelling support at a County throw in.

Robertson would then run over to fourth official Greg Soutar and relay the information to him, as well as a match delegate on the sidelines.

Staggies interim manager Don Cowie confirmed after the full-time whistle that there had been some form of incident, but he was not in a position to give any further detail.

However, the club have now released a statement condemning the abuse Dhanda heard.

The statement reads: “In the 30th minute of today’s match, Yan Dhanda was subject to alleged racial abuse from a Hibernian fan.

“Ross County and Hibernian have worked with Police Scotland to identify the male suspect, who has now been detained.

“There is no place for this in our game or society as a whole.

“The club will be making no further comment at this time.”
