MCGLINCHEY

MCGLINCHEY (Nethy Bridge). Ian C. McGlinchey, R.I.P., passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his own home, within the idyllic village of Nethy Bridge. Ian McGlinchey served the Spey Valley and the wider highlands community for 20+ years, as a bus driver and as an instructor, whilst creating a new generation of drivers, most of whom are on the road today. Some who may have struggled learning a new profession, Ian was always calm and compassionate, providing a holistic approach to each student's needs. Thus, allowing a successful pass rate at the driving test centre. As a driver on many routes himself, he provided a safe and secure journey for many people within the valley. Ian would go further' by helping these who struggled to get to their destination by going above and beyond. Whether this was because someone struggled with shopping, he would drive them closer to their door. Or in some cases, during a cold winter's day with heavy snow and wind, he would stop at an unconventional stopping point(s), as if a chariot came to the rescue out of the distant fog of snow, helping those get home, both warm and safe. And on another occasion, he would help assist on the scene of an accident and recover a colleague's bus from off the road, whilst providing comfort and assurance to both the passengers and the driver. In addition, if there was ever a school bus to pick, it was McGlinchey's bus that was '1st choice' for many children, this was a 'fun and happy bus' where kids of many generations would be allowed to play their music and have exchanges of laughter, providing lasting memories for many who are now parents themselves! As a keen athlete, Ian was also a professional Scottish Football Association (SFA) Coach, teaching many children and adults to play football in the region of Glasgow, where he was born. Separately, Ian was an ear to these in need of guidance and an advocate to these who needed support against any prejudices and injustices. A champion of fairness and equality for all! All are welcome to attend Ian's funeral mass, which will be held at St. Aidan's Roman Catholic Church in Aviemore, Wednesday, 15th May, 2024, at 11.30am, followed by a burial within Abernethy Churchyard, cortarriving for 1pm; thereafter Nethy Bridge Hotel will host all these in attendance for tea and coffee.
