Balloons released in memory of tragic North Kessock classmate

AN emotional tribute has been paid to a former North Kessock pupil who died battling leukaemia earlier this year.
Friends and former classmates hosted a rainbow run in memory of Tawonashe Mudzamiri at the weekend.
The former North Kessock primary pupil’s family had relocated to New Zealand before his death and he died peacefully with them by his bedside.
Parents from his former primary school organised a sponsored rainbow run in his memory and encouraged the children to wear bright clothes to reflect his personality.
Children from the school also wrote messages on balloons and sent them into the sky for him to read.
Parent council member Emma Nicol said: "He was always so cheerful – even when he was going through treatment.
"The children wrote such lovely messages on their balloons for him.
"It was very special and very emotional – it stayed so sunny during the day but at the end it got darker and a double rainbow appeared. The children believe it was their friend watching over them."
Tawonashe had been fighting leukaemia since 2010 and would have been 10 now if he had lived. In 2013 he ran the River Ness 5K to raise funds for Clic Sargent – a charity that helped his parents with financial and emotional support.
The parent council is still in the process of collecting in the sponsor money but they believe it will be in the region of £3000.
Miss Nicol added: "It is just amazing how much has been raised and how well all the children did."
The donated sponsorship money will go towards an outdoor learning space for the pupils, with friendship benches and a special memorial tree being planted in memory of Tawonashe.
