A COMMUNITY boxing project has aimed a knockout blow to the idea that having a disability has to hold anybody back.
Disability charity Leonard Cheshire in Scotland has worked alongside Inverness City Amateur Boxing Club to deliver valuable sports training to a group of young people with additional support needs.
Cameron MacDonald, who won the coach’s award for “most improved” boxer during the project, said: “This was a great project for us to be involved in and I was even more pleased for my development to be recognised.
“No doubt I will be coming back.”
The Can Do boxing project saw young people sparring every Sunday morning for eight weeks at the city boxing club.
As well as simply offering participants the chance to get involved in sporting activities Leonard Cheshire in Scotland’s project saw people aged 16 to 35 also given the chance to gain new life skills through training and volunteering opportunities.
Laurie Redfern, who runs the Inverness City Amateur Boxing Club, said: “It’s given me and my team great pleasure to train and teach the Can Do boxing camp.
“The team are welcome to use our facilities any time and to see their faces when they received their medals and certificates at the final session was my payment.”
