Inverness care home asked to make improvements
A CARE home threatened with closure over a catalogue of failings in basic care standards is facing a fresh deadline to meet improvement demands.
Elmgrove House Care Home must demonstrate to inspectors that two outstanding requirements have been met by the end of this month.
The Ballifeary Road facility was served with an improvement notice by the Care Inspectorate in September.
But it managed to avoid being shut down after inspectors found “some progress” had been made during their February visit.
However, the inspection report underlines two areas that were still to be improved.
The provider still has to demonstrate that staffing levels meet the needs of the elderly clients and are in line with health and safety standards.
The inspection report stated: “The management were using a formula to calculate staffing levels, however, at the time of the inspection no record of this had been maintained and we were unable to see how the dependency scores were being used to influence or determine the number of staff on each shift.”
Inspectors also noticed the service had a low number of staff who held relevant Scottish Vocational Qualifications.
The service has also been told it has to keep risk assessments and improvement plans up to date. The deadline for this demand has also been extended to the end of the month.
A Care Inspectorate spokesman said: “We recently visited this care home and found some progress had been made.
“While we expect that progress to continue, we are satisfied that the care provider has acted on the areas of concern raised in the improvement notice.”
