A 29 year old Inverness man who smashed up his partner's bedroom has had his sentence deferred for four months to allow him to prove to a sheriff his behaviour won't be repeated.

Cory Laird of Union Street, Inverness, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted threatening or abusive behaviour on February 12 this year in the house in the city’s Craigton Avenue.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "They were in a relationship previously for eight years. In the early hours of the night in question, police were contacted by the 999 service about 5am to attend due to a disturbance.

"The woman was distressed and told officers that he was in the bedroom and had smashed up the place. The accused kicked a door and smashed pieces of furniture.

"He co-operated with police and acknowledged he had anger issues and would punch walls."

Defence solicitor Myhrin Hill said her client had now got a support worker to help him and he is hopeful of resuming the relationship.

Laird will reappear for sentence on August 29.
