A woman was assaulted by her partner several times despite him being banned from approaching or contacting her by a court order.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 25-year-old Kieran Sehar of Ardival Court, Strathpeffer was already on bail with conditions to stay away from his victim.

But on February 15 last year he defied the court instruction by going to her home in Craigton Avenue, Inverness and contacting her.

When police were called to the property, Sehar acted in a threatening or abusive manner towards them and uttered threats of violence.

On April 27, Sehar again contacted the woman at her home but on this occasion he seized her by the hair and punched her on the head.

Sehar admitted two breaches of bail, assault and aggressive behaviour.

Sheriff Gary Aitken deferred sentence until March 28 for a background report and an assessment on Sehar's suitability for a domestic abuser rehabilitation programme. Sehar also appeared before Sheriff Sara Matheson on indictment, which carries a maximum five years jail sentence.

He pleaded guilty to charges mostly involving the same victim. He admitted assaulting her to her injury at the Craigton Avenue address on April 13, 2022 by repeatedly punching her on the face and stomach.

Fiscal depute Susan Love told the court that the woman "thought she was going to die as he was holding her neck tightly, making it difficult for her to breathe".

Sehar then kicked her on the head, rendering her unconscious.

Ms Love added that he returned to the property on September 24, 2022 and placed the mother of two and another woman in a state of fear and alarm by throwing a plant pot at a window and smashing it. He admitted threatening behaviour.

Sehar also admitted resisting arrest in June 18, 2022 when police went to Riverbank House in Conon Bridge following a report that Sehar was injured.

An ambulance was called and when the emergency services tried to help him, he threatened the police, lashed out with his legs and was put to the ground, Ms Love went on.

"He repeatedly spat and said to police 'I will stab you.' Later at Raigmore Hospital he apologised to police," the prosecutor said.

Sheriff Matheson called for the same reports and deferred sentence also until March 28 when all matters will be dealt with.
