Parking places will be lost temporarily at a key Inverness riverside location for almost seven months while vital work is carried out on the Northern Meeting Park.

Work on the refurbishment and reconstruction of the historic Inverness landmark is under way.

And when contractors move onto the next phase, spaces on Ardross Street outside the Meeting Park’s frontage will be closed in order to accommodate the work.

That section of road, near to Inverness Cathedral, is currently used for seasonal touring coach parking, drop-offs and pick-ups.

And in order to make up for the temporary displacement of some of those bus spaces, stretches of Ardross Terrace and Ardross Street that are currently earmarked for permit parking in front of the cathedral will be used as an overspill for coaches and blue badge holders instead.

The new arrangements come into force on Monday (April 8) and will remain in effect until October 31. Explaining the temporary changes to the parking conditions, a Highland Council spokesperson said: “These changes are required because of works to refurbish and reconstruct the Northern Meeting Park stand, which will result in the loss of parking space along its frontage.

“In order to continue to accommodate the seasonal tour operators that require to drop-off and pick-up their passengers in Ardross Street, it is necessary to make some adjustments to the current parking arrangements.

“Three of the no permit parking spaces alongside the cathedral will not be available between 10am and 5pm, while buses will be able to utilise all the spaces shown highlighted in red on the plan (see image, top).

“The Highland Council apologise for any inconvenience.”
