Piri-piri grill chain Maeme’s set to open in Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness

A new restaurant and takeaway looks set to move into a vacant site in the Eastgate Centre in Inverness after plans were lodged with Highland Council.
Maeme’s, which runs a number of piri-piri chicken grills in more than a dozen locations across the UK - including Aberdeen - plans to move into Unit 4 of the Eastgate Centre.
It has lodged an advertising consent application for alterations to the unit’s exterior and to install an illuminated hanging sign outside.
The unit is located next to the ground-floor entrance at the Eastgate Centre’s Eastgate entrance where the Eastgate, Crown Road and Stephen’s Brae meet.
The vacant unit used to be occupied by a Game outlet before that company relocated inside the city’s Sports Direct.
A spokesperson for Maeme’s said that the new eatery is expected to create somewhere between seven and nine jobs.
A specific opening date is not yet known but its website does confirm plans to “open soon” in the Eastgate and the spokesperson added that, all going well, the site could be operational sometime around July..
Maeme’s currently runs 15 franchise locations dotted around the UK, with ones in Scotland in Aberdeen and Falkirk.
A further 18 locations are marked as “opening soon” on its website, including one in Glasgow.
Eastgate Shopping Centre manager Chris Kershaw said the plans were good news for Inverness city centre. He said: “It’s absolutely good news. It will add something to the city centre. I don’t think we’ve got another piri-piri restaurant in the city centre itself which will be nice for those enjoying a night out.”
