Torvean Swing Bridge remains closed to road traffic after an issue with its automatic operation occurred yesterday.

Highland Council has said specialist engineers have been unable to diagnose the issue remotely so will travel to the site to investigate and make the repair.

This is a continuing saga for the bridge after already having closed due to issues this month.

Tongue in cheek, social media users have suggested it would be more reliable for someone to stand with a crank and open and close the bridge by hand.

Others have suggested that a tunnel would have been more beneficial and saved more time and money.

The swing bridge, which was designed to work in tandem with its older 'twin' to ensure one crossing is always open to road traffic on the busy A82, has had a troubled history in its short life.
