Ali inspiring African kids to start boxing

From sparring in a gym in Merkinch to setting up his own boxing club in Botswana, a Ross-shire athlete is helping to change young lives for the better.

Ali Macleod is almost 5600 miles away from his home in Fortrose where he is working on a voluntary teaching placement through charity Project Trust.

The 19-year-old who is a member of Inverness City Boxing Club is working in Africa as a volunteer over 12 months at a school for pupils who have got into trouble with the law or been thrown out of school.

As well as teaching them art and maths as part of his volunteer work, Macleod is also introducing these pupils to the sport which is having a positive effect.
