Nairn County tie North of Scotland Cup final hat-trick hero Aaron Nicolson down as teenager signs new two-year contract with Highland League club

By Andrew Henderson

Nairn County’s North of Scotland Cup final hero Aaron Nicolson has signed a new contract to stay at the club.

The 18-year-old turned the cup final in Nairn’s favour, scoring a hat-trick to ensure the Wee County came from 2-0 behind to go 3-2 ahead.

Nairn would go on to win the match 5-4 after extra time, securing the club’s first trophy in 11 years, with Nicolson the second player in the club’s history to score three in a cup final.

That was the highlight of what was a productive season for the Inverness Caledonian Thistle academy product, scoring eight goals in 14 starts at Station Park across the 2023/24 campaign.

Nicolson had been at the Caley Jags from the age of nine, earning four caps for Scotland’s schoolboys during his time in the Highland capital.

Now, he has pledged his immediate future to Nairn County in the Highland League, putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year contract.

New Nairn manager Ross Tokely was delighted to tie down the teenager, commenting: "Aaron is a player with bags of potential who I knew a lot about before he came to Nairn.

"He now has that first season of adult football under his belt, so he knows what the Highland League is all about.

"He has a great attitude towards his football and always works really hard on his game on the training pitch."

"We know there is still a lot more to come from Aaron though and we are looking forward to working with him once we return to pre-season training and to helping him continue his development and unlock that undoubted potential.

"He will now be looking to earn a more regular place in the starting team and I am sure he will have a big part to play for us in the new season."
