MANAGER Duncan Ferguson says Inverness Caledonian Thistle are probably looking at the play-offs to stay in the Championship next season.

He spoke after Inverness could only draw 1-1 with Dunfermline Athletic while Queen’s Park thrashed Arbroath 5-0.

Queen’s Park moved one point above Inverness into eighth place with the final day of the regular season on Friday night.

Inverness face Greenock Morton at the Caledonian Stadium while Queen’s Park take on Airdrie at Hampden.

Ferguson says Inverness will go all out for victory against Morton on Friday, but fears they will need to navigate the play-offs to stay in the Championship next season.

He said: “We have to win and make sure that we win. We are just disappointed as we needed two wins back to back. If we win on Friday, it gives us a chance, but it is only a wee chance, I think we are looking at the play-offs to be honest.

“We are deflated as we needed to win. I saw the result at Arbroath and that didn’t surprise me to be honest. But we have to take care of our own business and we never did that today unfortunately.”

Dunfermline took the lead just before half time as Kyle Benedictus headed the hosts in front. Billy Mckay saw his penalty saved in the second half but Aribim Pepple equalised with 15 minutes remaining.

But Inverness couldn’t find the winner that would have kept them out of the relegation play-off spot.

Ferguson says it was a much improved performance in the second half from Inverness, but the first half was disappointing.

He said: “Everyone is a bit down and they are disappointed, in the first half we never showed up.

“They never had many chances but neither did we. Second half we were more direct, went for it a bit more.

“In the second half we were really good but left it too late.

“It could be an important point in the long run, but it is out of our hands and that is the problem. I was disappointed with the first half showing.”
