Event of the Week: Happy Hogmanany!

End the year with a bang in Inverness
End the year with a bang in Inverness

HOGMANAY has traditionally been the biggest party night on the Scottish calendar – and just about the only one back in our cheerless Calvinist past.

The Highland Capital is doing its best to make Inverness one of the must be places to celebrate the New Year with Scotland’s biggest free Hogmanay Party, the Red Hot Highland Fling.

Joining its regular host, comedian Craig Hill, at the 2016/17 hooley will be Skerryvore, recently named Live Act of The Year at The Scots Trad Awards, north musical institution, soul band Scooty and The Sky Hooks, and another band with a Scots Trad Award on their collective mantelpiece, fellow Highland band The Elephant Sessions.

For those who prefer to celebrate Hogmanany somewhere cosier than at the back of Highland Council’s Inverness HQ, there are plenty of indoor options, including Bogbain Farm’s Bogmanay, hosted by Blazin’ Fiddles’ Bruce MacGregor and again featuring the busy Elephant Sessions, while The Ironworks has its regular Hogmanay bash in the company of Rhythmnreel and Hootananny’s offers the choice of Hoodja and friends in the downstairs Ceilidh Bar and Mystic Shoes upstairs in Mad Hatters.
