Hipsway's new album tour and Inverness date
ONE of the most iconic Scottish voices of the 80s returns with Hipsway and an Inverness date on their new album tour in December.
Grahame Skinner’s voice was familiar on the 80s Scottish soundscape – including number 17 single The Honeythief which also made 19 on America’s Billboard chart.
The band will release new album Smoke & Dreams in November and follow it out there with a Scottish tour in December that calls in at the Ironworks on Sunday, December 16.
Grahame Skinner said: “We’ve been playing some less well-travelled places recently and the reception has been great. We are looking forward to hitting Inverness for the first time and returning to some of our favourite cities.”
Stephanie Cheape – who rocked the XpoNorth stage at Belladrum recently – will support all dates.
In Hipsway reformed, playing Edinburgh and Glasgow to support of the 30th anniversary deluxe reissue of their first album. The band played a limited number of gigs last year including a sell-out show at the reopened Glasgow Kelvingrove Bandstand.
Hipsway guitarist Pim Jones said: “I just can’t wait to get back out on the road and play this new album and all the classics to a live audience, and with this tour finishing in our home town, with our first Barrowland gig, it’s going to be epic.”
Writer and broadcaster Mark Ellen said of the new album’s songs: “It’s refreshing to hear this kind of music right now as it doesn’t feel processed or machine-driven. And it sparks a nostalgia for both the 70s and 80s.
“I love the crisp guitar and the slightly Steely Dan vocal harmonies.”
Tickets for the gig are now on sale from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and on 0844 844 0444.
