NEW monthly step-dance classes in Inverness will be led by Dannsa's Caroline Reagh.

It's one of Scotland’s most traditional forms of dancing and continues to have a strong tradition in Cape Breton where Scottish emigrant communities settled.

Step-dance is often accompanied by lively songs on the fiddle, pipes or voice.

Now an Inverness fèis is hoping to help revive interest in step-dancing in Scotland with a new series of classes.

The monthly classes, hosted by Fèis a’ Bhaile, will be open to all children and adults, regardless of previous experience of dancing.

Leading the classes will be Caroline Reagh – one of step-dancing trio Dannsa – who has a wealth of experience in delivering classes around Scotland.

The new series of classes follows a session the fèis held with Caroline last year that proved popular. Fèis a’ Bhaile organiser Rachel Campbell said: “We are delighted to have Caroline from Dannsa on board for these classes as she offers a patient and fun style of tuition and we are sure that everyone will have a great time.”

The first of Fèis a’ Bhaile’s classes will take place on Saturday, April 8 at Millburn Academy and will continue monthly thereafter.

The cost per session will be £8 for adults and £5 for children. Teas, coffees and juice will also be available at the session.

As well as step-dancing, Fèis a’ Bhaile provide regular tuition in button box, drama and group-work sessions to young people, culminating in a week long fèis for five to 18 year olds (October 16-20 2017) in Inverness.
