The Inverness Botanic Gardens have a project, Grow, which supports 25 adults with learning difficulties. Many also have mobility issues. The adults overlook over half of the garden area at the Botanics.

Charity shop Caring and Sharing, located at Queensgate in Inverness, have donated £3000 to help fund this project.

Izzie MacDonald, the manager of Caring and Sharing, handed the cheque over to the Grow project.

The money will go towards costs for raised beds, which will make gardening for the individuals easier and more accessible.

The garden gives Grow members a sense of a workplace environment, whilst encouraging the adults to improve their independence, social experiences, and health.

Ewan Mackintosh, Inverness Botanic Gardens manager, said: "I’d like to say a huge thank you to Caring and Sharing, not only for helping prevent sore backs and dirty knees, but their donation will help us include more people into the activities we offer, making life easier for everyone.

"We welcome visitors to look around, and discover our fruit trees, vegetable plots, wildflowers, bulbs, herb beds, a bug hotel encouraging insect life, and much more.”
