4 fun family time things to do this weekend
See a show blending Celtic and South Indian dance, try the dance at a workshop, catch the last performance of a fun show for five to sevens and plan a free tennis lesson – and book some coaching for the summer
1 Could YOU survive?
Just a reminder that the show for five to 7s, Two In A Barrel, comes to Eden Court at 4.30pm on Wednesday May 10. It starts with two friends in one barrel, perched on an island of rubbish. They love finding treasures in the waste that surrounds them and making up their own world of adventure. Every little thing can be transformed into something magical to start a fun game. But when space is tight, they face new challenges, like having to ration their food and learning to coexist. And what will they do when the rubbish threatens to cover them up?
2 Celtic and Indian culture get close ...
An exciting mix of Gaelic culture and South Asian music and dance comes together in show Hebridean Treasure: Lost And Found on Wednesday, May 17 at 7pm at Eden Court as song, dance and storytelling with live Scottish and South Asian music come together for audiences 7+. The music is created to suggest the ancient landscapes of the Scottish Isles and the deep connection those who live there have with nature. A story of exile moves through grief and tragedy to bring a message of hope for a new way of life and that values Celtic cultural heritage. With the words of John Phillip Newell and the music of critically-acclaimed composer and Gaelic singer Mischa Macpherson, the show also adds the performance of Bharatanatyam dancer Kirsten Newell. And for anyone 14+ a chance to immerse further in the dance, see below.
3 Now, try classical Indian dance moves ...
It's your chance to learn to make the moves from the Hebridean Treasure show with the Bharatanatyam Dance Workshop, a special event for 14+ at Eden Court on Sunday, May 14 at 2pm taken by classical Indian dancer, Kirsten Newell, who will lead an open level dance workshop introducing Bharatanatyam technique and drawing on themes from the performance Hebridean Treasure: Lost & Found. Kirsten has trained at the Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bangalore and the Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai.
