4 fun family time things to do in Inverness this weekend
They include hanging around with Spider-man Across The Universe, finding out more about bugs, listening to young musicians and checking out summer activities ...
1 The newbies are still hanging around ...
Spider-man Across The Universe (PG) arrives in cinemas this week. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse where superpowered team of protectors known as the Spider Society including Peter B Parker (Jake Johnson) and Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) – and they have a mission ... And in case you don't know, in 2018, the dazzling original computer-animated adventure in this series, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, championed diversity and inclusion – and won the Academy Award for best animated feature film. First screenings at Vue Cinema are on Thursday, June 1 at 7.30pm and also at 8.15pm for the Strobe FX screening.
2 Bug watching
At Dobbies Garden Centre on Sunday, June 4 at both 10.15am (already limited availability) and 11.30am, this month's Little Seedlings workshop is celebrating National Children's Gardening Week with bug watching. You've got three-year old William, a competition winner from the Carlisle store, to thank for coming up with the fantastic topic. In this session, you can – find out about different kinds of bugs and where to find them in the garden; discover why they are important to our environment; find out how to look after bugs; and how to make your own paper plate butterfly. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and advance booking may avoid disappointment.
3 You'll be blown away ...
Highland Young Musicians will be performing a spectacular Beating The Retreat at Inverness Leisure on Sunday, June 4, with doors opening at 3pm. Beating The Retreat is a military parade dating back to the 1690s when the beating of the drum was originally used to order troops to break off fighting, but it later just meant calling troops back to base. These days, it is strictly ceremonial, but remains popular at events such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Dancers coached by Cheryl Heggie will also add to the sense of occasion providing the finishing touch in the main hall from 3.30pm onwards.
TICKETS: Tickets are available to buy at the door on the day, cash only, so please bring the correct change. Under-18 tickets £5, over-18 tickets, £10.
