A probe has been launched into the death of a prisoner at HMP Inverness

The Scottish Prison Service has said a Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held into the death of a prisoner while in its custody at HMP Inverness.

The cause of death of 48-year-old Gary Wallace, who was remanded in prison this year, has not yet been revealed.

Mr Wallace passed away at HMP Inverness on April 19.

A statement issued by the Scottish Prison Service said: "Gary Wallace (48) a prisoner from HMP Inverness has died on 19 April 2021. He was remanded at Inverness Sheriff Court in 2021.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."

HMP Inverness houses around 110 inmates.
