A82 boulder removal to close busy Highland trunk road for three Saturdays in February between Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston, warns Bear Scotland
Boulder removal will close the A82 for three nights, motorists are being warned.
Bear Scotland has advised drivers that it will be carrying out “controlled removal” of boulders above the busy trunk road at Grotaig in February.
This will result in the overnight closure of the road between Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit on three Saturday nights in a row - on February 1, 8 and 15 - while the work is carried out.
Bear Scotland warned that there will be no temporary lifting of the closure between those hours, stating: “On each Saturday night, six hours will be required to undertake the works and carry out assessments ahead of re-opening the road each Sunday morning. It is therefore not possible for the road to be open at any point throughout these hours.”
It stressed that it had been working with “all relevant stakeholders” to mitigate the impact.
Ian Stewart, Bear Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “We understand that road closures can be frustrating for road users and apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential safety improvements. The removal of boulders from the rock slope will help to protect drivers and ensure the continued safe operation of the A82.
“We’ll be working hard to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
