A96 weekend road closure sparks Run the Runway travel advice from Inverness Airport
FUN runners looking to pound the tarmac of Inverness Airport in aid of Maggie's Highlands' Run the Runway are being urged to plan ahead due to major road closures on the A96.
The A96 near Nairn, close to Whiteness will be closed the full weekend from tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm until Monday at 6.30am to enable vital resurfacing work to take place.
And, with the Run the Runway event set to take place from 10pm on Saturday, Inverness Airport has warned folk heading to the charity event to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journey and to take alternative routes.
A spokesman for the airport said: "It's only a few nights to go before the Maggie's Highlands' Run the Runway 2023 takes place at our airport! Starting at 10pm, Saturday, August 26 – we're so excited!
"We are aware that Traffic Scotland road closures for resurfacing have started on the A96 carriageway near Nairn, close to Whiteness. From Friday, August 25 at 7.30pm to Monday, August 28 at 6.30am, there will be a full weekend road closure.
"We suggest that anyone, event participants, or passengers, check the road closure times before setting off here.
"Our suggestion is if travelling from the Nairn direction to the airport, to use the Cawdor or Ardersier routes to avoid disruption."
