Teenager seriously injured after being hit by van in Dumfries and Galloway
A teenager has been seriously injured in a collision involving a pedestrian and transit van in Dumfries and Galloway.
Police said they were alerted to the crash on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road, at Carsluith, at about 10.15pm on Friday.
It involved an 18-year-old male pedestrian and a white Ford Transit van.
Emergency services attended and the teenager was taken to hospital, and has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Officers traced the van a short time later on the A75 near Benfield, Newton Stewart.
The 28-year-old male driver of the van, and a 33-year-old male passenger, were both uninjured.
Police said a 28-year-old man was initially arrested in connection with the incident, but that he has been released pending further inquiries.
The road was closed for a “significant” period following the incident while investigations took place.
Police said the teenager was with a friend, and that he had stopped to speak to the occupants of a vehicle on the A75 prior to the collision.
They have appealed for the occupants of that vehicle to contact them.
Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “We are in the process of piecing together the circumstances of this incident.
“A young man has been seriously injured and it’s important we find out what happened to him.
“I would urge the occupants of the vehicle that was on the road at the time to get in touch with us.
“I’m sure the information they have will prove significant in our inquiries.”
