Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness to launch free Science Sundays for youngsters starting with artificial snow making
Youngsters are being invited to make artificial snow at an inaugural event tomorrow at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness.
Science Sundays are a new free monthly science discovery series, aimed at inspiring and educating young minds.
They are being run by the shopping centre’s Nevis Club for youngsters and will take place on the last Sunday of every month from 11am to 3pm at the community stage in conjunction with Fitkidz.

Tomorrow’s inaugural event, Let It Snow! Winter Wonders, will give children the chance to make artificial snow, explore melting ice with salt and learn the properties of water.
The activities are designed to stimulate curiosity and promote a deeper understanding of scientific principles.
Shopping centre manager Chris Kershaw said: “The Nevis Club has been dedicated to providing fun and educational sessions since its inception.
“We are excited to add these free monthly sessions to our timetable and continue to support families in our community.”
Amy Mullen, of Fitkidz, said she was thrilled to be partnering Eastgate in 2025 to offer free science sessions through the Nevis Club.
“At Fitkidz, we’re all about making learning fun and engaging, and this initiative gives local children the perfect opportunity to explore science in a hands-on, creative way,“ she said.
“We can’t wait to see kids and families join us for these exciting new sessions and discover the wonders of science together.”
Future themes include making a colourful, bubbling lava lamp with oil, water, food colouring, and Alka-Seltzer, or creating a fizzing reaction by combining baking soda, vinegar, and fresh lemons.
In addition to the Science Sundays series, Nevis Club also offers free children’s sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday during school holidays as part of its commitment to accessible education and engagement for young learners.
