ASDA in Inverness ends 24-hour shopping to leave the city without a round the clock supermarket service
Inverness is set to lose its last 24-hour supermarket outlet this month after ASDA decided to scrap the service.
Around the clock shopping has been a popular feature at the £27 million Slackbuie store since it first began trading in July 2012, but will end on Monday, April 21
Tesco also previously offered a through-the-night opening times, but ended the 24-hour operation at its Inverness Retail Park outlet during the Covid 19 pandemic.
The 24-hour opening hours were popular with night shift workers, including NHS Highland staff.
ASDA, which created 400 jobs in Inverness when it opened after six years of wrangling over planning issues, is understood to have assessed changes in rates of footfall at different times of the day, as well as staffing costs.
A spokesman for the firm said the change was to ensure staff numbers were maximised at the busiest times of the day.
He added: "We occasionally review the opening hours of our stores and have updated the hours at our Inverness so we can better serve customers shopping Asda’s unbeatable value at the busiest times of the day.”
The new hours will be 6am to midnight, seven days a week, matching what are now the city’s other longest opening hours at Tesco Extra at the retail park and Tesco on Dores Road.
