NORTH, South and East Ayshire have all voted for No in the referendum.

North Ayrshire, which was the first of the three to declare, saw No post a near 2,000 vote lead (49,016 to 47,072).

South Ayrshire saw No secure a 58% to 42% split (47,247 to 34,402).

And in a surprise result, East Ayrshire, which many analysts thought might support independence instead voted 53% to 47% in favour of No (44,442 to 39,762).

With just six council areas still to declare No has a 54 per cent to 46 per cent lead over Yes - exactly mirroring the results of a YouGov poll which was published as counting got underway at 10pm last night.
