Award-winning bakery chain, Harry Gow, has celebrated the opening of a new store in Inverness.

The new location in Harbour Road marks a significant milestone for the bakery, particularly following last month’s closure of its Fairways shop which was one of several units destroyed in a massive blaze.

To mark the occasion, the first 100 customers through the doors today will receive a free slice of birthday cake – a tradition Harry Gow has celebrated with each new store opening.

The new shop is located in what was the former Thrifty Car Hire unit.

Director David Dow said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to open the doors of our new store on Harbour Road.

“This location marks not only a fresh start after the closure of our Fairways shop in March but also an exciting opportunity to serve our community even better.

“The space, previously home to Thrifty Car and Van Rental, has undergone an incredible transformation.

“While we initially had doubts about whether it would be large enough to accommodate our needs, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the results.

“With careful planning, we’ve created a space we’re confident our customers will love.

“With a wide selection of our delicious bakes and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we can’t wait to share this new chapter of Harry Gow with our loyal customers – and hopefully get to know a few new faces too.”

Harry Gow, which has its headquarters in Inverness, already operates 17 bakery shops across the Highlands and Moray.

Harry Gow was crowned the first Scottish Baker of the Year in 2012 and, to date, is the only bakery to have scooped the top award twice – winning again in 2019.

The bakery’s products are also found in 34 Co-op stores across the north of Scotland, in two branches of Morrisons and one Asda location.
