Residents unhappy at short-term let rise

Residents in an Inverness apartment block say short term let properties have spoilt home life. Six of the 24 flats in the historic building which once served as Hilton Hospital are now being used as short term let properties.

“If they have communal entrances then they can appeal against Airbnb and short term lets.” - Robert Reston MacIntosh

“Get with the times. A couple come up from England (shocking to some but it is allowed), they put money into paying for a holiday let. They then go to the Tesco they get a few bits n bobs for their stay, money in to local Tesco. Mandy that works on the till at Tesco gets paid. See where this is going. They then head out to Rocpool for dinner. More money in to the local economy. People want the local area to grow, businesses to thrive, but they don’t want the tourist.” - Mark Spence

“Mark Spence, you’re right, but harder and harder for locals to get accommodation though.” - Dob Son

“Ban Air bnb.” - Neil John Maclean

“Neil John Maclean, don't ban it, regulate it appropriately.” - Cecille Mettot

“Try living next door to an AirBnB, it was a bloody nightmare, we moved home because of it.” - Kirstin Rattray

Approval for 400 new homes plan

Highland Council’s south planning applications committee granted permission in principle to Springfield Properties to build 400 homers at a site in Milton of Culloden.

“I have said this before, they should not be allowed to build new houses until new doc surgery, schools and other infrastucture is in place. Where are all these people coming from??” - Sue Fisher

“Where are the infrastructure buildings? Our doctors surgery is at full capacity, the schools are struggling. Our Green belt is slowly disappearing before our eyes, I've been here since 1975. Firstly in Smithton and in Culloden since July 1999. The council way back then said we would never lose our green belt. But slowly but surely all around the city the green belt is DISSAPPEARING.” - Helen Fraser
