BOLD plans have been unveiled to hold more money-making events at Inverness’s Northern Meeting Park in a bid to save the city’s free Hogmanay party.

Inverness councillors will today discuss proposals to generate more income from the site – which has hosted concerts by Madness, the Kaiser Chiefs, Simple Minds and The Pretenders – after concerns were raised earlier this year about how much the Red Hot Highland Fling costs the public purse.

But the plans have already prompted controversy after the Highland News alerted the Northern Counties Cricket Club that it faces eviction from its home of more than 150 years as part of the plan.
