Bottle banks left unemptied in Inverness

RESIDENTS are being urged keep their empty glass bottles at home until the bottle banks in Inverness and the Highlands can be emptied.

Eco-conscious locals hoping to recycle their empties were left disappointed when they found there was no room at recycling points with no explanation.

The bins were slowly being filled to overflowing this week with no sign of them being emptied.

And bottles were also being left on the ground, such as at these bins near to the Tesco Extra at Inshes Retail Park, in the hope that they would also eventually be collected.

However there was light at the end of the tunnel by Wednesday when Highland Council said it was aware of the issues relating to emptying of glass recycling banks.

A council spokeswoman said: “This has been raised with our contractor, who is deploying additional resources to catch up as quickly as possible.

“We would ask the public for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused.

“We ask that people keep their glass at home until their local bottle banks are emptied; or take them to their nearest recycling centre.”
