PUPILS and staff at an Inverness primary school have held a minute’s silence in tribute to a committed teacher who lost her fight against cancer.

Alison Martin-Hodgson, a P5 teacher at Lochardil Primary, died in Raigmore Hospital aged 59.

Head teacher Audrey Kellacher said the whole school was deeply saddened.

"She was a dedicated, supportive and highly experienced teacher at Lochardil Primary for many years and she will be greatly missed by us all," she said.

"As a mark of respect we held a whole school minute’s silence to remember the wonderful person and professional she was and have been reflecting individually and collectively on the positive impact she has made on us all.

"Her memory will be cherished and legacy valued and continued in the school."

Bill Alexander, Highland Council’s director of care and learning, said she was a committed teacher who would be a great loss.

Mrs Martin-Hodgson, of Holm Park, leaves a husband, David, to whom she had been married for almost 32 years, a son and daughter, and was set to become a grandmother in December.

She and her husband, a history teacher at Millburn Academy, first met in 1985 when they were teachers in Kuwait, but returned to her home city of Inverness in 1999.

"She was a wonderful person," Mr Hodgson said. "She was very social and very loyal to people. She was always doing something for others."

A service will be held at Culduthel Christian Centre on Friday at 10.30am. Donations are invited for the Archie Foundation and MFR Cash For Kids.
