A new consumer internet service provider (ISP) is launched today which offers ultrafast and reliable full fibre broadband services to homes across Inverness.

BrawBand will use CityFibre’s network and it is billed as reliable ultrafast broadband with a Scottish twist.

It offers residential customers full fibre services across three speed tiers – 200Mbps, 500Mbps and 900Mbps – and, as each service is symmetrical, it will give equally fast speeds when both downloading and uploading.

The new brand has been launched by HighNet, the Inverness based ISP specialising in telecommunications services for businesses across Scotland.

HighNet already uses CityFibre’s networks to provide ultra-fast connectivity to businesses and has chosen to launch the new consumer-only brand through which to bring full fibre services to residents.

BrawBand becomes the first consumer ISP to join CityFibre’s open access network in Inverness after CityFibre began the construction of its £14.5 million network in June. Residents in the area can register their interest or sign up to services from today, with the first customers getting connected in January 2021.

It claims to be among the fastest broadband services available in the country, providing up to 1Gbps of bandwidth when both downloading and uploading – currently, only around 16 per cent of the UK has access to full fibre.

David Siegel, BrawBand's managing director, said: “We’re so excited to be putting the Braw back into home broadband. For too long, people have had to make do with broadband services that rely on outdated copper cables. But thanks to Gigabit Full Fibre BrawBand, buffering and reliability issues will be a thing of the past.

"We’ve been powering businesses for nearly 30 years and now we’re bringing some of Scotland’s fastest and most reliable broadband services into the homes of the good people of Inverness. We’re not stopping there either and look forward to making Great Scottish BrawBand available to as much of Scotland as possible.”

Allan McEwan, the city manager at CityFibre, added: “We’re delighted to welcome BrawBand and its Gigabit speed home broadband service onto our Inverness network. We’ve worked with HighNet for many years and we are really excited to see them apply their expertise and great reputation to the launch of residential full fibre broadband services. We can’t wait to see people across Inverness reaping the benefits of their Braw full fibre connections.”
