BBC Highland’s studios in Inverness have been evacuated after smoke was reported in the building.

Two fire appliances remain at the scene, with crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service carrying out investigations within the building.

The incident meant the Gaelic TV news show An La, usually screened on BBC ALBA at 8pm, was not able to broadcast earlier this evening.

The alarm was raised at 7.03pm.

An SFRS spokeswoman said no fire had, as yet, been found at the 1976-built premises on the corner of Culduthel Road and Mayfield Road, but crews were continuing with safety checks.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “We are sorry we were unable to broadcast An La on BBC ALBA this evening.

“A fire alarm was sounded at our BBC Inverness TV news studio shortly before the programme was due on-air.

“Viewers can visit the BBC Naidheachdan website for some of today’s news updates.”
