Police have closed off Inverness High Street to shoppers.

The pedestrian area is cordoned by two lines of officers at either end of the street, from around CEX to McDonald's.

Shop staff and customers were evacuated from some stores and café premises.

Lanes connecting with the High Street were also closed by officers, with members of the public told to take alternative routes.

A witness said: "At least two police cars and two police vans are at the scene."

It is not yet known what has prompted the action.
