Crowds of new mums sat down to feed their babies and normalise breastfeeding while out and about in support of the national awareness week.

The idea came from an Victoria James (30) to coincide with NHS Highland’s events.

She said: “I am just so chuffed with the turn out today. It is about giving support to one and other and making friends. It is important that there are partners and grandparents here today because you need their support too – breastfeeding can be hard and it is important to have people around you to support you.”

She set up the event after reading online about abuse other women had received while breastfeeding in the community.

Earlier in the day mothers heard from Mairi Hedderwick, author of the Katie Morag books. She also attended the event in Whin Park with NHS staff to show support.
