Two young brothers are using their lockdown exercise time to help others.

Aidan Lennan (12) and his nine-year-old brother Ciaran began their fundraising effort on Monday, covering a distance of 4.4 miles daily in a bid to cover 26.2 miles by Saturday.

It is a different fitness challenge for the boys, who trained at the city’s Highland Martial Arts Centre before it was temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Their mother Diane Lennan, of Brudes Hill, is very proud of her sons for wanting to do something for the NHS and the family hopes any money they generate can help buy items of personal protective equipment (PPE).

“The boys are always training, usually they are focusing on their next competition for their kickboxing, and they do a challenge every year to fundraise for their kickboxing as it’s very expensive to compete at their level,” she said.

“So when they said they wanted to still do a challenge they decided they wanted to raise money for NHS Highland.

“They have been inspired by the amazing work the frontline staff are doing during this pandemic and every day of their working lives.

“All their competitions have been postponed or cancelled and because they have been doing a lot of running during lockdown, they decided on doing a marathon – albeit a bit differently.”

The brothers are both Scottish, British and world champions. Aidan is also part of the WAKO GB team and went to the WAKO Junior European competition in Hungary last August, where he achieved a bronze medal.

Aidan goes to Charleston Academy and Ciaran is at Muirtown Primary.
