Nairn candle business to feature on Christmas tv show
A NAIRN business is set to feature on national television as part of a show on how people celebrate Christmas in different parts of the UK.
Coast Candle Co, a firm which specialises in handmade candles and wax lanterns, will come under the BBC One spotlight on A Very Country Christmas on Sunday at 10.30am.
With footage from within its shop in Nairn’s Leopold Street, the local business will be showcased in the opening episode of the three-part series.
Janis Maclean, who runs the business, said: “The production company contacted me out of the blue by email and naturally I wanted to grasp the opportunity.”
Co-presenter Ellie Harrison was filmed learning how to make her own candle.
“We spent the first hour of the morning filming down on the beach where I was interviewed by Ellie and then we moved to the shop where she made her own scented candle,” Ms Maclean said.
“They were very professional and conscientious about filming during Covid.”
Coast Candle Co opened in June 2019 after relocating from Dornoch.
“I was delighted to be included in the show and to showcase not only my business but also hopefully our town as well. Our high street and businesses have faced huge challenges this year. It’s really important that we grasp these opportunities.”
The firm, started at Ms Maclean’s kitchen table, also featured on 2018’s Channel 4 show Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas.
Her creations are inspired by memories of home on the Scottish west coast at the small crofting village of Coast.
