Celebration of ‘special books’ – and book give-away
A celebration of ‘special books’ is being held in Inverness by HighlandLIT to mark Book Week Scotland – this week – and there’s a chance to get one of these books free of charge.
Members and friends will be recommending books which have a special place in their lives at the group's free event at the Glen Mhor Hotel in Inverness tomorrow from 7pm-9pm, with a chance to come along and chat beforehand from 6pm-7pm. It is supported by the Scottish Book Trust.
Speaker Lynn Cassells, local co-author with Sandra Baer of Our Wild Farming Life: Adventures on a Scottish Highland Croft, will reveal the books which helped inspire their journey into crofting.
Penelope Hamilton, from the HighlandLIT committee, said: "We're excited about celebrating Lynn and Sandra's inspiring story – so relevant in these times of anxiety about healthy living, climate change and the environment. We’re also excited about sharing some books that have enthralled, informed and impressed their nominators, and perhaps even changed the course of their lives."
The ‘special books’ people have chosen to nominate include classics like 1984 and Cold Comfort Farm but also intriguing titles such as The Wild Edge of Sorrow: rituals of renewal and the sacred work of grief by Francis Weller and The Wilderness Cure by Mo Wilde.
