A leading Highland health charity is appealing for donations to help children who are cared for in Inverness during the Covid-19 emergency.

The ARCHIE Foundation is the official charity of the Highland Children's Unit at Raigmore Hospital.

David Wood, the charity's chief executive, said because of the current situation opportunities to generate funds were restricted.

The organisation has now sent out an appeal to its supporters asking for donations.

Mr Wood said: "Wave after wave of fundraising events have been postponed or even cancelled. Fundraising streams are beginning to run dry. Demand for our services, however, increases by the day.

"It is vital that charities like The ARCHIE Foundation can ride out this pandemic and continue to provide support for our local communities. If not, the long term damage will be felt by all of us and crucially more so by our children."

He said help was urgently needed to fund the increased demand for vital services and the Covid-19 appeal for NHS children's hospitals covered hospitals in both the north and north east of Scotland.

Donations will be used where and when they are needed most and could include: providing emergency grants for families who are struggling financially; funding essential and necessary additional support above what the NHS can provide; bringing a little cheer to over-worked staff and volunteers at the frontline.

Mr Wood said: "Covid-19 may have wiped our calendar of events in the short term, but families, babies, children and our local communities need our help now more than ever and to deliver this The ARCHIE Foundation really needs your support."
