An Inverness salon is currently working seven days a week to keep up with demand.

Haircraft, in Church Street, Inverness, first opened 38 years ago and is currently managed by Lauren Taylor who has worked there for the past 20 years.

Including herself, there are four hairdressers as well as someone who specialises in doing nails – and she is hoping to take on a new member of staff who can do eyelash extensions in the near future.

Miss Taylor said: “To be honest, we’ve never been busier, we are all in such demand, I’ve never known anything like it in 20 years doing hair.”

They are currently working seven days a week and are even offering evening appointments.

She admitted that, before they reopened, it was scary and added: “We weren’t sure what to expect. We were all excited and so happy to be back.”

Miss Taylor said people should feel safe because they had followed the advice and put the appropriate safety measures in place. She added: “We’ve always been good at keeping the salon clean – the measures make sure it’s extra clean.”

Another advantage that they have at Haircraft is a lot of floorspace and Miss Taylor said it was safe for two people to be in the waiting room.

She said: “Everybody was so happy to see us and it is very overwhelming how everyone is so appreciative of us. We’ve all been really happy to be back at work.

“I think everyone has realised that it was serious about everybody’s safety. We are doing track and trace for everybody.”

She said that it was quieter during the week now that the schools were back but added: “The weekends are still busy and we have clients travelling from all over the north of Scotland.”

Clients are coming from as far afield as the Isle of Skye and Ullapool and Miss Taylor said people were making the journey into a day out to the city centre.

She said: “It’s a compliment that people come from so far and they are coming to us. It is nice to know.”
