Concern as Inverness traffic lights fail, but Highland Council take action
TRAFFIC light failures at three busy junctions and pedestrian crossings in Inverness are being attended to by Highland Council.
The crossing near Inshes Roundabout, and at the junctions near Kingsmills Hotel and Dows Bar and Bistro have been without lights for several days sparking safety fears especially as the schools return.
A Highland Council spokesman said: “At Dows/Old Edinburgh Road the signal controller is no longer supported by the manufacturer so we cannot get spares to repair it.
"A traffic survey has been carried out which has assessed the best replacement is a pedestrian crossing on Old Edinburgh Road slightly up towards the Southern Distributor Road and reverting the junction to a Give Way from Balloan Road onto Old Edinburgh Road.
"The design is in process and due to progress as soon as materials and contractors are available."
“At the Kingsmills Road/Damfield Road junction a signal company has attended to make repairs but an underground cable fault was found which requires further investigation.
"The signals are back in operation but further works are currently programmed to replace the faulty cabling and upgrade the junction."
“At Inshes Roundabout, a pedestrian crossing was out there on two occasions but has now been repaired and will be checked again.”
Highland Council added: “Faulty traffic signals and lights can be reported to the council 24/7 using the online forms at www.highland.gov.uk/report or by phoning the council’s roads and street lighting - 01349 886601 (8am to 5pm Monday to Friday) or outside these times phone roads and street lighting on 01349 886690.”
