The future of the city's controversial midnight club curfew is under review.

A SEVEN-week consultation on the future of the Inverness curfew has started today.

Public pressure over recent years has led to newly-elected Highland councillors asking for a review of the ruling which prevents people from entering city centre nightclubs after midnight.

The policy — which was re-examined in 2010 and last year — was introduced in 2003 after a request from Northern Constabulary.

Senior police have said it helps keep the city safer and allows them to organise breaks for officers.

Some publicans support the policy, but others argue they lose business because customers leave their bars earlier in order to reach the nightclubs before the cut-off point.
