Ardersier hotel Gun Lodge set for new lease of life as plans to open a wellness centre and hotel given green light
An Ardersier historic building is set for a new lease of life after councillors gave the green light to plans to restore it as a hotel and wellness centre.
The Gun Lodge, located north of the village, has remained vacant for months after it was sold to new owners more than a year ago.
Now developer Shamrock Wellbeing — whose director is Culloden and Ardersier councillor and Inverness provost Glinys Campbell-Sinclair — was granted permission to convert the existing hotel to a boutique wellness hotel and restaurant.
At a South Planning Applications Committee meeting held yesterday at Highland Council, members agreed to grant permission to renovate the building — which is currently showing damage and deterioration.
Culloden and Ardersier councillor Morven Reid welcomed the move, saying: “I am delighted that this building is being brought back into use, so I am very happy to support this application.”
Inverness councillors Duncan Macpherson and Andrew Mackintosh were also in favour of the development.
Mr Mackintosh said: “It’s in a fine spot and a fine space, and it’s good to see it coming back.”
He particularly welcomed the plans to remove the current toilet block — which will be converted into a conservatory area — and the introduction of a wellness facility in Ardersier.
When completed, the new business will offer hotel rooms and wellness treatments alongside a restaurant which will be open to non-residents.
