Cromarty teenager chosen as new Inverness Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet
A Black Isle girl has been given the “prestigious honour” of being appointed as a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet.
Orlagh MacIver from Cromarty has scooped her fair share of accolades — most recently being named as Secondary Pupil of the Year at Highland Heroes.
Beginning her time at the Cromarty Youth Cafe aged four, Orlagh has now gained over 1000 hours of volunteering work for her Saltire Award.
Orlagh has been volunteering in a number of capacities for the last five years, including at the Cromarty Youth Café.
She’s since been leading multi-sports sessions, arts and craft groups as well as intergenerational gatherings in her local community.
Now the teenager has been appointed as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Inverness, set to work alongside Lord Lieutenant of Inverness, James Wotherspoon.
A lord lieutenant’s cadet acts as a representative and aide for cadet forces to both the royal family and the lord lieutenant in their county. The selection and appointment of these cadets is based upon their outreach efforts and active involvement within their squadron, detachment or unit. It is one of the highest achievements in the cadet forces.
Announcing Orlagh’s new role, Black Isle Youth Development said: “We would like to share the biggest congratulations and well done to Orlagh, who has just been appointed as The Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Inverness!
“The Lord Lieutenant is his majesty the King’s representative in their area, and the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet accompanies and assists the LL in a variety of duties, including royal visits. Well done Orlagh on what is a very prestigious honour indeed.”
The Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty, Joanie Whiteford said: “Many congratulations Orlagh, you will be a fantastic Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet. Enjoy every moment.”
