A GARAGE owner is calling for proper repairs to a large pavement pothole after an elderly lady fell over it.

Ian Henderson, owner of the Inverness MOT Centre in Shore Street, says he has contacted Highland Council about the hazard outside his premises six times in the last 12 months.

Mr Henderson, who fears someone could be seriously injured if they fall into the road, has repeated his plea for the hazard to be properly repaired after going to help a lady in her 70s who tripped over the 6in hole.

“I saw her lying there and me and one of the boys helped her up,” he said. “She didn’t want any help. I think she was more embarrassed than anything.

“She had gravel rash on her hand and her knee was gashed. She was not badly hurt but she could have ended up in front of a car.

“It is dangerous.”

Mr Henderson said following his previous calls to the council, workmen had repaired the pothole two or three times with “cold stuff” which disappeared after a couple of days.

“Highland Council has done really well with making financial savings,” he said.

“It would only cost £50 to £100 to repair this. It may seem a trivial thing but it is a dangerous thing.”

A Highland Council spokeswoman said: “There are works programmed for early this week to do a resurfacing patch on the footpath over the pothole location to rectify the defect.”
