Darts player ends 49-year wait to win Inverness competition





Lawrence Deans ended a 49-year wait to reach an Inverness Summer Darts League competition final and was crowned C League singles champion.

The Innes Spikeys player, who reached the first Summer Association singles final in 1974 and was runner-up, was crowned champion for the first time almost five decades later.

In the semi final, he defeated Barry Stuart from Chieftain Rebels before beating his Innes Spikeys teammate Jon Robertson 3-1 in the final at the Raigmore Motel.

In the A League singles at Keppoch, Portland’s Nicky Denoon beat Gordon Matheson from Tarradale in the final.

It was the second time the Muir of Ord player has been beaten in the final following from 2019.

There was a first-time champion in the B League competition at the Innes Bar as Raigmore’s Shaun Morrison defeated Dave King from Innes X 3-1 in the final.

Thursday fixtures

A League: Tarradale v Portland A, Innes Power v Seaforth, Battlefield Bullies v Still Game.

B League: Legion CSE v Innes X, Innes Bar v 147 Buddies, Culloden Moor Inn v Raging Storm Raigmore.

C League: Conon Hotel v Keppoch Belles, Clachnaharry v Innes Spikeys, Smithton Pirates v Legion.
